Former NASA astronaut Sally Ride passed away, Monday, July 23, after her battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was the first American woman in space, and is survived by her partner of 27 years, Tam O’Shaughnessy.
Tam will not receive Federal Benefits because DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) prevents it.
Sally is a pioneer. The love she shared with Tam should be treated with similar respect and dignity.
Selective celebration of Ride’s achievements is an egregious disservice to her Astronomical contribution and social influence.
Organized prejudice is messing with the wrong American and World Hero, and should not be tolerated.
Tam deserves better. Tell the US Government to give Tam her rights and abolish DOMA.
